  9. asc5250 Presentation :

  11. Developed by ASC, asc5250 is a Terminal Tool designed to offer 5250 terminal emulation for AS400 using the standard access interfaces of Apple's Communication Toolbox.

  13. asc5250 supports telnet connections over TCP/IP using our TCP/IP connection tool called TCPack, as well as SNA connections using our SNA•ck connection tool based on Apple's SNA•ps product.

  15. asc5250 is System 7 compliant and supports balloon help.

  20. Hardware & Software Requirements :
  21.  
  22. - Any Macintosh with at least 128K Roms (Macintosh Plus and newers).
  23. - Macintosh System Software 6.0.4 or later.
  24. - The Macintosh Communications Toolbox v. 1.0 or later.
  25. - A Communications Toolbox compliant application like 5PM Term (our own powerful
  26.    terminal emulation application).
  27. - TCPack, our TCP/IP + Telnet + FTP server Connection Tool for the
  28.    Communications Toolbox
  29. or
  30. -  SNA•ck, our SNA connection tool build on top of Apple's SNA•ps product line
  31. or
  32. -  SNA•ck for AVATAR, our SNA connection tool build on top of Avatar's & former 
  33.    TriData API's.

  38. Known problems :
  39.  
  40.     - TextAssist, the text editor of OfficeVision, is not supported through
  41.              Telnet connections.
  42.     - SDA, the AS400 screen generator, is not (yet) supported through Telnet connections.
  43.     - Drawings in 16 greys and 4 colors is a bit slower than in all other modes.

  48. Hints :
  49.  
  50.     - Don't forget you can map any screen attribute to the color you want. For example,
  51.              you can display the editable fields in light blue (when using a black background)
  52.              or in dark grey (when using a white background).
  53.  
  54.     - When using a 132  columns terminal mode with "Reduce for 132 col." checked,
  55.              the terminal automatically selects the largest font which makes the terminal fits
  56.              into the monitor. On a 13'' monitor, it uses the "ascIBM 6pt" font. However some users
  57.              consider it too small, especially when they don't need all the 132 columns. In this
  58.              case, just remove the "ascIBM 6pt" font and the terminal will select the "ascIBM 7pt"
  59.              font which is much more readable. I can display up to128 columns on a 13'' monitor.

  61.     - The previous "asc5250 Fonts" can be removed from your System: asc5250 and
  62.              asc3270 now use the same "ascIBM Fonts".
